The instruction in this course will focus on three critical areas: (1) analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures, through the use of distance, angles, similarity, congruence, and Pythagorean Theorem; (2) using functions to describe quantitative relationships; (3) formulating expressions and equations, including modeling an association in bivariate data with a linear equation, solving linear equations, and systems of linear equations.
This course is appropriate for upper level middle school students or as a high school review course.

Kurz Pre-Algebra je velmi užitečný jako startovací kurz z matematiky. Studenti si v osmi modulech osvojí znalosti, které jsou pak pevným základem v pokročilejších kurzech matematiky.
V každém modulu je poutavou a motivační formou představen problém, který je pak potřeba řešit. Je to například: vyjádření vzdáleností planet pomocí matematického zápisu, využití Pythagorovy věty v praxi, nebo praktické zapojení funkcí do každodenního života.
Mezi vysvětlovacími kapitolami jsou krátké testy, které nabídnou rychlou zpětnou vazbu. Kurz je motivační, obsahuje videa, obrázky, doplňovací cvičení. Rychlou zpětnou vazbu poskytne i instruktor a je pro studenty důležitá. Jakýkoliv problém můžou studenti konzultovat, mohou se s instruktorem spojit přes chat nebo přes videohovor.
Studenti během kurzu nabydou nejenom matematické znalosti, zlepší si i vyjadřování v angličtině, ale také zdokonalí schopnost samostatně pracovat a plánovat.

The Pre-Algebra is very useful as a starting course in Mathematics. Within eight modules, students will become acquainted with topics which will lay the foundations for their further mathematical education in more demanding courses.
In every module, a certain problem is introduced in an attractive and challenging way, and this problem is then solved by a sequence of steps. These are for example: expression of inter-planetary distances in a mathematical form, the use of Pythagorean theorem in practice, or a practical use of functions in real life.
Within the explanatory chapters there are also short tests, which will offer an instantaneous feedback. The course is motivating, it includes videos, pictures and additional practice opportunities. A direct feedback will also be given by the instructor, and it is usually very valuable for the students. Any questions or issues can be consulted with the instructor, using either messages or a videoconference.
The students will not only improve their mathematical skills, but also their communication in English and their abilities of individual work and planning.
