In this course you will learn the fundamentals of programming such as: loops, branching, variables, and functions which are the basic building blocks of all the apps that you use. We will use a program called “Scratch” which was developed exactly for our purposes. By the end of this course, you will understand how computer scientists think and how to transform even the wildest ideas into real Scratch programs! This course is ideal for curious and playful students studying in 6 – 8 grade, or older, with no prior programming experience. Also, the course will help you develops solid basis for further work with major languages used in the software industry such as Java or Python. Students are strongly recommended to study on average about 3 hours per week.

For Beginners in Coding: Learn all about the technology you use in your day-to-day life and explore how the internet functions through this introduction to coding. Build your knowledge of algorithms, programming constructs, and program design to create your own code. Discover how to solve problems with code while dabbling with turtle graphics, Tynker and Python to begin your journey into this exciting field! You will leave the course with your very own portfolio of work that will showcase your skills and all that you’ve created. The course is for beginners, from 6-8th grade. Students are recommended to study on average about 2 hours per week.

We don’t always think about the role technology plays in our world but the truth is technology influences our everyday lives and affects how we relate to our friends, family, and even complete strangers. For those wanting to develop a greater understanding of this technology comes Start with Coding 1b. Building on what you learned in Start with Coding 1a, you’ll expand your knowledge of Python programming. You will learn to use lists, loops and create your own functions. You can use these to develop your own text-based adventure game. You will also learn the basics of how the internet works and how to use HTML and CSS to create web pages. We will then introduce you to JavaScript to make your webpages interactive.
